Elena Ruz Sandwich with Queso Frito

Elena Ruz Sandwich is a simple and delicious Cuban sandwich made of turkey cold-cuts, cream cheese and strawberry jam. We are bringing back this popular sandwich by using Queso Frito to add a creamy and crunchy layer, or you can use a slice of Queso Blanco. This is also a great idea for the day after Thanksgiving using your turkey and cranberry sauce for leftovers that will delight.

  • 2 medianoche breads or 2 large, sweet breads
  • 4 slices of deli turkey
  • 6 tbsp of strawberry jam
  • 1 tbsp of butter
  • 1 cup blended or canola oil to fry the cheese
  • 4 medium slices of Queso de Freír Tropical

  1. In a small skillet pour the oil over medium heat. When the oil is hot fry the slices of Queso de Freír until golden brown on both sides. Remove the fried cheese slices from the oil and place them on a paper-towel lined plate to absorb any excess oil. Set aside.
  2. Spread the strawberry jam on both sides of the bread.
  3. Add the turkey slices then on top, place the fried cheese.
  4. Close the sandwich and heat a frying pan with a little butter. Grill the sandwich on both sides, gently pressing with a spatula to flatten the sandwich.
  5. Cut in half, on an angle, and serve hot.
