Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (2 squares), thawed
  • 14 oz guava paste
  • 10 ounces Tropical Queso Blanco
  • 1 large egg, whisked

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly oil a knife to prevent sticking. Cut the guava paste into evenly sized slices. Slice the Tropical Queso Blanco into pieces of similar thickness so they bake evenly.
  3. Place one puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet. Arrange alternating slices of guava paste and queso blanco across the surface, spacing them evenly to distribute the filling throughout the pastry.
  4. Lay the second puff pastry sheet directly over the top, pressing gently around the filling areas to seal the layers together.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut the layered pastry into even nine squares, but keep them touching so they bake as one slab. Lightly score the tops of each portion to allow steam to escape. Brush the surface and edges with beaten egg to help seal and promote browning.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and deeply golden.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before separating into individual squares. Serve warm or at room temperature.
