What is a Salvadoran quesadilla?

Many know the popular Mexican quesadilla, but the Salvadoran quesadilla is a completely different delight, it is a dessert! This quesadilla is a sweet cake that is sold in bakeries in El Salvador. It can be eaten for breakfast with a coffee or whenever you want to sweeten the moment or at family gatherings.

How do you make a Salvadoran quesadilla?

A Salvadoran quesadilla is made with simple ingredients that we generally have at home, such as flour, cream, sugar and as its name says, cheese.

The Tropical Queso Fresco Salvadoreño and the Tropical Crema Salvadoreña will give your quesadilla the perfect flavor and consistency.

Traditionally it is made with rice flour, but common flour is commonly used, as in this recipe. Salvadoran Quesadilla is a moist and fluffy cake that is ready to enjoy topped with  sesame seeds, but if you feel like it, you can add a scoop of ice cream or fresh red berries. It will be the favorite treat of children and adults.

Let's make a Salvadoran quesadilla!

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease an 8-inch round pan.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs until smooth and stir together with the Crema Salvadoreña. Then add the Queso Fresco and stir again.
  4. Using an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter on medium speed to break it up, then gradually beat in sugar, continuing to beat until very light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the egg mixture and then the flour mixture. Mix until well combined.
  6. Spoon batter evenly into the prepared pan and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
