There are a wide variety of hot dog recipes, and it’s a great food to experiment with using different combinations and flavors. Today, we invite you to try a bold Tropical Hot Dog recipe topped with Queso Fresco, Chipotle Crema and served with Queso Frito Fries.

The most popular hot dogs are the classic Chicago-style hot dogs, New York hot dogs, Chili Dogs (covered with chili con carne) and Coney Dogs (covered with meat sauce, typical of Coney Island but created in Michigan). There are hot dog variations and creations in most US states from Ohio and Virginia, to Texas and California to name a few, so choosing a favorite is tough!

Are you ready for a new adventure? This delicious hot dog recipe has grilled sausage in a warm, toasted bun and is topped with guacamole, crumbled Tropical Queso Fresco and chipotle crema. Plus, the perfect side: Tropical Queso de Freír fries instead of traditional French fries (more protein, fewer carbs). This recipe has three parts: the preparation of the hot dog, the queso frito fries and the chipotle crema. But it will be worth it!

Ingredients

  • 4 beef hot dogs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 hot dog buns, split and toasted
  • 1 cup prepared guacamole
  • 1 cup crumbled Tropical Queso Fresco Mexicano
  • Chipotle Crema (recipe below)
  • Diced red onions, optional
  • Freír Fries (recipe below)

Freir Fries:

Chipotle Crema:

Preparation

  1. Cut each hot dog in half lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through; open in center to lay flat. In a 12-inch skillet, over medium-high heat in hot oil, place hot dogs flat-side down; cook until lightly browned on both sides, turning once.
  2. Place hot dogs in warm toasted buns. Top with guacamole and Queso Fresco; drizzle with Chipotle Crema as needed. Add diced red onions, if desired. Serve with Queso Frito Fries.

Queso Frito Fries:

  1. Cut Queso de Freír into 3 ½ x ½ x ½ inch strips. Like regular French fries.
  2. In a deep saucepan, heat 1-inch vegetable oil on medium high (375°F).
  3. Fry cheese strips until well browned on all sides, about 20 seconds.
  4. With slotted spoon, remove and place on paper towel to drain excess oil.
  5. Repeat with remaining cheese strips.

Chipotle Crema:

  1. In small bowl combine crema and chipotle peppers; stir to mix well.
